Another "drop picture". This time I placed my mothers orchid behind the drops. Only the ground wasn't very even and it didn't fit exactly behind the drops.
This is my entry for Closeup-Photographys Complementery contest [link] .!!
Oh my god!! I won the contest!! this was only the second contest I entered and in the first contest I was second with Drop of honey [link] and now I won this contest. I am sooooooooooooooo happy!!!
I like the refraction in the drops, and I like the way the grass is crossing the frame. Excellent placement of the area of acceptable focus!
Although I like the refraction in the drops, I don't like where the drops are positioned in the frame. The largest drop is too close to the edge of the frame and it leads the eye out of the photo. The composition would have been a lot better if the grass (guessing at it since I can't see it) started in the lower left area of the frame and extended to the upper right with the largest dew drop in the rule of thirds hot spot in that corner. Being able to see some of the detail in the grass would also make the image better.
It's tough to shoot a dew drop refraction because, like water splash photos, it's a very common subject. Even minor mistakes in composition will stand out...
